Shawarma is an Arabic dish made of pita or lavash, stuffed with grilled meat, sauce with spices and a salad mix with fresh vegetables. The recipe first appeared in the 19th-century in Ottoman Empire.
The delicate crispy shell of pita bread and the juicy filling inside does not leave any person indifferent. You can eat it with your hands, without using any cutlery.
In Europe shawarma was first prepared by an emigrant from Turkey, Kadir Nurman. In Berlin, not far from the railway station, he opened his stall and prepared this dish for those who wanted to have a snack on the go. It was Kadir who initiated the commercial shawarma and installed a rotating vertical grill in his establishment, on which meat was fried. He created the recipe for cooking shawarma based on the Turkish doner kebab.
Now shawarma has become very popular. It can be seen not only as a street food. Famous real food are often used in computer games like Shawarma Wrap from Genshin Impact. This recipe is not an attempt of food cosplay, but a full-fledged food.
In Muslim countries the most often used meat for shawema is lamb. In territories far from Islam it is cooked with pork, chicken, turkey, beef, etc.
This recipe is based on chicken meat. It is faster to cook than beef or pork.
Ingredients for shawarma wrap
- Round pita bread (pita) — 2 pcs.
- Chicken fillet — 300 g.
- Bell pepper — 2 pcs.
- Lettuce leaves — 1 bunch
- Garlic — 3 cloves
- Tomatoes — 2 pcs.
- Cucumbers — 2 pcs.
- Onion — 1 pc.
- Salt — to taste
- Khmeli suneli seasoning — 1 tsp.
- Natural yogurt or sour cream — 150 g.
- Lemon — 0.5 pcs .
- Olive oil -10 ml.
- Feta cheese -3 tbs .
- Cilantro — 1 bunch
- Parsley to taste
- Dill to taste
- Black ground pepper — to taste
How to Cook shawarma erap from Genshin Impact at home
Step 1. Put the pan on maximum heat, add 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and throw finely chopped garlic when it reaches the maximum temperature. Fry it until golden brown.
Step 2. We take the garlic into a clean, dry container and leave it for the sauce; put the chicken fillet cut into strips in the same oil. Fry the meat on maximum heat until browned. It will take about 5-10 minutes.
Step 3. While the meat is cooking begin to make the sauce: press the feta cheese with a fork, mix it in a bowl with natural yogurt (or sour cream), add fried garlic, salt to taste, hops-suneli seasoning, finely chopped parsley and dill, as well as a few drops of olive oil and lemon juice.
Step 4. Prepare vegetables: cut tomatoes and cucumbers in thin round slices; dice bell peppers into thin strips and onion in half rings like for salad.
Step 5. When all the necessary ingredients are ready, begin to make the shawerma itself: to do this, heat the pita bread in the microwave for 40 seconds, take it out, cut it in the middle for propper wrapping. We have a recipe for 2 servings. We do the same with the second pita bread.
Step 6. Open the pocket, grease it with sauce inside, put lettuce leaves inside the pita bread, then spread vegetables and meat with a spoon and pour the sauce again.
Step 7. Brown ready-made shawarma wrap kebab in a dry frying pan at high temperature.
