Sprats are very small fish that belongs to the same family as sardines or herrings. They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Sprats primarily inhabitant both North and the Baltic seas, making them very popular in in the menu of Eastern Europe. You will easily buy a canned oil sprats in any big European market. You can also substitute sprats for any canned, small fish that is usual for your region.
One of the most popular recipes with this tiny fish is different variants of canapes. The sprat sandwich belongs to easy and cheap cooking ideas. It can be cooked for picnics or be an easy appetizer. I suggest these sprats canapes because I like combination of ingredients. They are tasty and so flavorful. You will surprise how this plain meal can be so good.
- Smoked canned sprats – 200 g.
- Bread – 10 slices
- Lemon – 1 pc
- Garlic – two cloves
- Processed cheese – 100 g.
- Mayonnaise – 100 g.
How to make sprat sandwich
Step 1. If necessary, cut bread into thin slices. I have chosen sliced bread already.
Step 2. Also, slice the lemon very thin into half rings.
Step 3. Then grate processed cheese, add 3 fishes from the can and add pressed garlic. Mix well. You will receive the mass like in the image below.
Step 4. Divide the bread slice into two halves. Spread one with mayonnaise and another with cheese, garlic and sprat mix.
Step 5. Place sprat on the mayonnaise layer and a thin lemon slice on the processed cheese layer. The canapes are ready.
Enjoy your meal!
UPD: Some people from Eastern Europe write me the recipe perfectly matches with vodka or gorilka. I wonder why…
