For those who prefer inexpensive potato meals, I suggest a simple recipe for cooking potato pancakes (draniki). The variants of this pankakes are typical for various European cuisine.

This recipe will satisfy the demands of vegetarians or adherents of a healthy diet, and I strongly advise you to try it! The benefit of this tasty dish over others is a fast and easy cooking process with minimum ingredients. Draniki are served to the table hot with sour cream. To make the potato pancake consistency more tender, the recipe does not include flour and eggs, and the dish consists of five ingredients not counting salt and pepper.

  • Onion — 100 g.

Step 2. Start grating potatoes. They need to be high in starch. Young summer vegetables are not suitable for this recipe — big potatoes with a rough skin and a yellowish core suit well. Peel the potatoes and grate them on a coarse grater. You can also use a blender.

Step 3. Mix with onion and finely chopped garlic. Then pepper and salt the potato dough to taste. It is important to let the excess liquid drain. This will help draniki to keep their form while cooking.

Step 4. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan. The amount of oil should be anough so that the potato-onion mixture can soak in it. For such a volume of ingredients seven to eight pancakes are obtained. It means one large or two small portions.
